Providence Bank $20

Rhode Island Banknote

1850s Proof. Durand 1885, Haxby RI-380 G92, Bowers W-RI-1170-020-G370

“American Bank Note Co., New-York. India paper only. Three color tinting. Dark red 20 center, over green medallion TWENTY, over lathe of lighter red TWENTY guilloche pattern. Left end, Knowledge standing, leans on column. Lower right, young girl. 20 above. Another stellar tri-color proof. These are rarely encountered or offered for sale. Very few banks would pay the immense cost for such notes with this technique. Some light paper ripples as made and seen from the verso.”

Haxby lists as SENC.
