Today Of Rhode Island’s original 19th century banks, only Washington Trust (founded in 1800 as the Washington Bank in Westerly),  BankNewport (founded as the Savings Bank of Newport in 1819), Citizens Bank (an outgrowth of the High Street Bank, founded 1828) and Centreville Bank (founded in 1829 in Warwick) remain active today.
