Exchange Bank $3

May 7, 1803 (?). Durand 1305, Haxby RI-290 C32, Bowers W-RI-940-003-C170

Early counterfeit attached to a contemporary banking slip. Forged signatures of Amos Throop, president, and Stephen Jackson, cashier. Likely following a genuine William Hamlin design, of which no surviving examples exist. Unlike the $1 counterfeit from this series, however, no Hamlin imprint is visible.
