Ashaway Bank $10

July 9, 1855 Proof. Durand UNL, Haxby RI-15 G12, Bowers W-RI-440-010-G050

“The $10 note features Moneta reclining by a strongbox gazing at a distant town in a framed mirror. This vignette is flanked by a vignette of a woman drawing water at a well at right and a portrait of Red Jacket at left. An arched red TEN protector completes the design. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. The bottom margin is tight. This note was the sole example of this design to appear in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale as part of Lot 1800 and is quite possibly unique in Proof form”

Danforth, Wright & Co., engravers. Bowers lists as “none known.” Durand describes a similar note, but does not mention the red protector “TEN.”
