Producers Bank $20

1850s Proof. Durand 2644, Haxby RI-585 G-18P, Bowers W-RI-1690-020-G060

“The $20 design features vignettes of Liberty standing in an ornate niche at left, a farmer plowing with oxen at center, and Proserpina seated at right. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. While a portion of the card has been roughly removed there is, amazingly, no damage to the note itself. This note design was not represented in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. Based on the absence of any public auction appearances in the last decade we suspect that this note is quite rare.”

Danforth, Bald & Co., New York and Philadelphia, engravers. Plate A. Bowers lists as “none known.”
